Mana management is a very important part of a wizards life. I've found,
when I'm with a good group, I only cast 2 spells on one creature. Once
after the fighters have engaged the enemy and done a little dmg so they
stick on the fighters instead of running towards me ;) The second time I
cast is to finish the fight.

For me, the second cast is the most important as it keeps the group from
having to run after the creature to kill it when it starts fleeing. This is
especially true in dungeons, where if a creature gets away, they bring
friends back with them.

By only casting 2 spells a creature, I have enough mana to deal with 3 or 4
creatures at a time. This is very benefical for me and for the group as
they don't take such a pounding from the others cuz I wasted all my mana on
the first creature.

I hit him twice with shock again. If we're in a relatively safe place, I'll
actually sit and start medding. I try not to let my mana go below 60%. So
I never burn on a creature that we're obviously going to kill anyway.
Unless: Someone is about to die, the creature can only be hit by magical
weapons or spells, or the creature resists my root spell and is running
away.
