I live (and die) by mesmerize, so I have a pretty expansive knowledge base
on it. Given that though, I can't determine any hard, fast rules for it. My
latest use for it has been in East Karana against gorge hounds. Sometimes
the battle just doesn't go right, and it's time to quit it. About half the
time on gorge hounds, after a mesmerize, the hound will come after me again.
In those cases, mesmerize is just a 10 second head start. However, I have
NEVER had a critter that I have not damaged yet come for me after being
mesmerized.

I will always try to use mesmerize instead of memory blur because of its
fast cast time and low mana use. If the critter still seems to want a piece
of me afterwards I mesmerize it again and reevaluate the situation.

Just my experience...
