I was actively playing on the Bristlebane server in a guild, I think they merged some servers together now I dont know which ones. The latest expansion is Seeds of Destruction, i think it would be easy to start up again on bristlebane server if its anything like I remember.

I'm looking to restart EQ and I want to jump to whatever server is the most noob friendly ( is that an oxymoron? ) Honestly, I'm also looking at an EQ Private Server called Shards of Dalaya as an option and it looks so fun! ( and free too ) but not Sony sponsored. I miss EQ but I really don't want to get into the 65+ stuff, just really want to relive the good times =)
