Here's the specs of my system:

Pentium 4 2.4Ghz 533mhz FSB

1GB 333mhz DDR SDRAM

ATI Radeon 9600 XT 256MB 4X AGP

RoadRunner Cable Internet

Now that's pretty decent system specs for running EQ, and for the most part it suits my needs. But I STILL have to turn Opacity down. This is not so much due to lag but because when you get 72 people casting spells on a raid, you can't see anything around you! I rarely get lag except sometimes in places like POK with a heavy population of people. You can cut down a bit on the lag by doing /show 1 - 4 which will show only first names on up through first, last,, and guild info. By far the best thign to do is drop clip plane though since thats responsible for how far off into the distance it renders graphics. Having it turned down always gives it a constant "foggy" look, but you get used to it. Granted it does make it harder to see mobs that aggro you until they're right up on you, but ithelps. This is what I had to do when Shadows of Luclin first came out and my system wasn't pwoerful enough to run it. So if your system is new and the specs are better than mine there's no reason, other than dialup, you should be getting any lag. Another thought, when Kunark first came out I was using an ISDN line which is a dual syncronous 128kbps phone line connection. It's hella more expensive than DSL or cable, but in some locations it's the only choice you got for high speed. Good luck with whatever you do though.

I agree about the connection although I have used dialup when losing my ISP connection. That said, EQ should run one at least something with these specs. 1.5GHZ machine or better 512 MB of Ram 1GB preferred. 64MB video Card, certainly 128 or 256 is preferred but I have run with a 64 and it ran fine. 56K modem but 90% will recommend a DSL or Cable modem. Compare your machine against that and you should be able to see where the lag is coming from. But Please do check as Wulfric Mentioned because you may also have your video hiked up when it should be lower because of the machine.
