Don't forget each server has a Generic time zone and location i.e. USA/Euroland.

this can be useful as you can avoid heavy congestion/lag with planning e.g. I choose the Druzil Ro server as its generic population is about 7 hours behind my time so I can avoid the heavy periods to camp but in the evenings there are enough people to get groups/raids, where as if I had chosen the new UK server everyone would be on at the same time making it harder to get camps.

There are also several websites which are used by almost the entire population on every server, these are

http://everquest.allakhazam.com/ - contains lots of information about items/quests and Mobs, most ppls first stop when looking for information.

http://www.eqatlas.com/ - this has become the standard site for maps, just about everyone has used this site, which is very useful as if your lost you can call out a landmark such as "im near No.7 on eq map" and people will know what you are talking about. The new LOY expansion will most likely make this redundant in the near future but for now is still useful.

http://www.eqtraders.com/ - This is a useful site for trade skill information, there are others out there, and allkazam has recently added a section for trade skills, but this one also contains useful guides which can help save a lot of time/resources when starting out.

http://eq.crgaming.com/ - some of the information here is outdated/incorrect but for the most part holds true. This site contains information about classes, abilities and spells.

http://links.allakhazam.com/Everquest/Class_Specific_Sites/index.html - this is a link from allakazam that has links to other class specific sites, which will contain tips/tricks for each class as well as extra info not on the above sites.

For your first few characters I would choose a Good race as Evil races tend to spend a lot of time working good factions anyway, just so they can travel without getting killed. as for class I don't think any are easier than others although for some reason druids/rangers are very popular <shrug>

Other people will no doubt have useful sites which Im sure they will post in due time, if you need any more info, this group is usually pretty quick and accurate in replying.

Good Luck.

To make it easy for you you'll probably want to choose a good race that's accepted pretty much everywhere and start in a central city like Freeport and Qeynos so it'll be easy to find your way around at first. It could easily be debated which is better to start... a caster or non-caster, that's entirely up to you. I like casters. And pretty much all servers are the same. If you have friends who play find out what server they are on so they can help you in game. Otherwise, look up anybody on this mailing list online and we'll be happy to help you I think. Good luck.
