I would say that you should do all your newbie armor quests (Underfoot
Defenders), which are given out by a guy in the paladin guild (cannot
remember his name for the life of me, but go around hailing everyone in the
guild and following their leads).
That should get you to level 10 or so and give you a halfway decent set of
armor and a decent weapon to boot.
