To a certain extent you are correct, but thats NOT mandatory.

If it were mandatory it wouldn't be called the Society for Creative ANACHRONISMS... it'd be called the Society for Complete Authenticity.

However, like I said, some people are purists and strive to be completely authentic in the making of their garb, weapons, etc. Me, personally, I don't believe that's even possible in this day and age of technology. If they use a sewing machine to put the small touches on their finest 100% authentic garb then it's not really 100% authentic is it?

We call these people authenticity Nazis. Nobody likes auth-nazis.

besides, there are a considerable amount of kids in the SCA whose parents are active members. It's very hard to find authentic footwear for kids because they grow out of them so fast. Therefore, most kids (that I've seen anyway) where tennis shoes.

You get the idea.
