You can start working with electrum now, you just won't be making the
magical varieties of jewelry. I'm not sure if that's a relevant concern, as
I don't remember which stones actually create magical jewelry when combined
with electrum. If the first several cheap stones don't combine to create
magic jewelry, then there is no sense in waiting... just jump right in!
