Actually, it has many more uses than this. You can use it as an opening
spell on a monster, and then hit it with any other spells that do not cause
damage to it, such as Tashan and Enfeeble. The monster only wakes if you
do damage.

Further more, when fighting multiple creatures, you can mez a few, allowing
your party to focus on one at a time.

Be creative.
