You should not be targeting the NPC's when using the AE spells. You should be targetting your "tank".

Its an awesome spell as a joke. You can run up to parties that are fighting groups of monsters.. cast this spell a couple of times, and they'll kill you. Oh, wait. Nevermind. Its useless. =)
