I disagree. every second its alive is good for you. If you are
doing it right then you should be stepping up to bat if your pet is getting
whupped... or using healing spells on it (Mend Bones and Revive Dead in case
any of you flamers decide I don't know what I'm talking about). You should
always be ready to step in for your pet, it will last longer and you won't
have to recast. Reclaim Energy is totally lame. I use it often to get the
best possible pet, but it only returns like an eighth of the mana back.

Also your pet regenerates fast when left alone. I would almost say
they regenerate in a monster way (like they don't regenerate in battle well,
but if you leave them alone and come back, they usually get their hits back
real quick).

You should WORK with your pet to keep it alive. Usually when your
pet dies at a higher level the monster will be all over you and you're dead.
As long as your pet is alive you can step back and cast a spell or two.
Then you go back in, take a few hits, then step back out and LifeDrain
again. All the while your pet is wailing away on the monster. I like some
of the more intelligent monsters too as they target you quickly. I'll
HeatBlood a kodiak then run for a while, pretty soon it'll develop a good
hate for me and will ignore the skel. In the Rathe Mountains there's a lot
of running room, so I'll cast, turn and run straight, wait a good ten
seconds, then tell my pet to attack. Then keep running. my pet will get in
several seconds for of hitting while the kody keeps chasing me down. I'll
run backwards to keep checking but eventually the kodiak will turn back to
the more painful threat. Then I return to piss it off more. Works wonders.
